Store Policies

Store Policies:

*Please note, some of these policies are also listed with my YYMN pricing here

I am licensed to knit the Evie Pants AIO pattern at this time, with more licenses to come in the future.  If there is a specific pattern you would like, please let me know and I can look into licensing options for the item you want.

*Turnaround time for custom knitted items depends on many factors.  The time it takes me to knit your item, make all of the finishing touches, wash and lanolize, etc, but it also depends on the time it takes me to dye your yarn (if purchasing yarn from me, MYMN), or for your yarn to get to me (if YYMN), where your item is on my customs list, and shipping time back to you.  Please allow ample time for your custom item to be hand knit, finished and shipped.  An estimate on when you should expect finished pictures will be sent to you once we have worked out all of the details of your custom.

*Turnaround time for custom shirts and custom dyed yarn is approximately 2-3 weeks.  If I have everything I need to complete your custom on hand, it will take less time, if I have to order supplies, it will take more time.  Hand painting a custom designed shirt involves drawing your design, making the screen, painting your shirt and allowing at least 72 hours for the paint to dry before shipping.  Custom hand dyed/painted yarn involves prepping, dyeing, washing, drying, and reskeining.  An estimate of your items finish date will be given when all custom details have been worked out.

*No returns on custom items will be accepted, except in the case of extreme misrepresentation or mistakes on my part.  Improper measurements, growth spurts or felting due to improper washing is not my error.  Please measure your child properly to ensure the right fit.  If you have questions about how to properly measure your child for a knit diaper cover, please contact me at borncrunchy@gmail.com and I will be happy to assist.  If there is a misrepresentation on my part or a flaw in the knitting, please contact me within 7 days of receipt of your item to discuss repairs or refunds.

*Deposits for custom items are non refundable.  Payment for your finished item is expected to be made within 1 week of your completion email.  If for whatever reason you cannot complete payment when your item is finished, please contact me and we can work out payment arrangements.  If you do not contact me within 2 weeks of completion to make a payment or to make payment arrangements, your item will listed for sale.

*Shipping charges are non refundable.  I try to ship within 48 hours, but with 3 small children at home, sometimes life gets in the way.  If for any reason I cannot ship within 48 hours, I will let you know and I hope you will understand.  I can only ship to Canada on Thursdays.  If this is a problem, please let me know and I will try to accommodate your needs.

*My knitted items are almost always 100% wool.  They need special care when washing to avoid shrinking and felting.  Please hand wash in lukewarm water with gentle soaps or wool wash, very little agitation, and lay flat to dry.  If you have any questions about how to wash or lanolize your new woolies, please contact me.  Your new woolies will come to you freshly washed and lanolized in Ewe Need it, Doodlebug FO.

*Hand dyed and hand painted yarns are available on your choice of base.  If you want a base that I do not have in stock, please allow time for me to order it, and have it shipped to me.  I use both food grade dyes and professional acid dyes, and sometimes a combination of the two, depending on your preference, and the colorway I am trying to create.  All of my yarns are heat set for colorfastness, and hand washed in Ewe Need it, Doodlebug FO before they are hung up to dry.  If you prefer an unscented wool wash, please be aware that your yarn will come to you with a slight vinegar and sheep smell to it from the dyeing process.  This is hard to avoid, although I do my best to get out the wools natural sheepy scent and the vinegar scent from the dyes.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at borncrunchy@gmail.com, and I will get back to you as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours.

Knitting and Dyeing and kids, oh my!

So I spent last night dyeing up some yarn for my own little guy, and some custom yarn for a surprise me custom for a friend! They both turned out awesome, and now I just have to wait for them to dry so I can get to knitting! Of course, with 3 young kids in the house, I can't just dye up my yarn at any time, so I was up until about 1 am getting everything dyed, cooled and washed and now it's hanging to dry in my bathroom and the yarn is seriously calling my name!!! I love it! The colors came out just as I had pictured them, with a few slight but beautiful surprises thrown in for good measure, and I just can't wait to knit them up!

Next week I have to get started on my items for the new Hyena Cart Congo that I am going to be a part of, Sweet November, opening November 1st. The plan is to have at the very least my new "sock monkey" colorway done (!) and sock monkey shirts done to order with it, along with at least a few knit items.... I would love to also have a boyish and a girly colorway and shirts to match, but we will see :) I will definitely be cutting it close this month.... Tons of customs to get done, and lots to do to get ready for the grand opening! I will post pictures o fmy finished surprise me customs as soon as they're done!

yummy, yummy, yarn...

A few more items finished and ready to stock for Shizz.Knitz Grand Opening on October 1st....

These yarns are all 100% Peruvian Highlands Wool, dyed with food grade dyes and heat set to avoid bleeding.

I call this one "Color Wheel" because I put red, blue and yellow dye on the yarn and watched as the colors combined beautifully to create a color wheel of yarn....  this yarn is red, blue and yellow, with green, purple and orange where the colors meet.

This one I dyed with my 3rd son in mind, and was going to name it after him, but I keep looking at it and thinking of a warm but refreshing summer breeze, so this one is affectionately named "Summer Breeze".  I used blue, light blue and yellow, and allowed the blue and yellow to flow together in a few spots to create a touch of green.

This yarn did not turn out the way I had planned, the red came out too light so it looks more pinkish, and the black bled into green in some places and mixed with the red to create a purple hue.  This yarn turned out SO different than I had planned, but SO beautiful too!  With Red, pink, black, green, purple and white, I have decided to name this yarn, "Holly Berry" because it reminds me so much of Christmas.

NB sock monkey set, hot off the needles....

And ready for Korin's Grand Opening preview at Shizz.Knitz October 1st!

I am loving these so much that I'm making a set for my own little guy!

Why I'm "borncrunchy" ... And what I do...

My name is Brittney and I was born "crunchy". As a natural birthed, extended breastfed, cloth diapered, minimally vaccinated, delayed solids, vegetarian, attachement parented, now mommy of 3 who slept with her own mommy until she was 6, I got the name for my business because I didn't become "crunchy", I was born that way.... I tried to fight it, to become mainstream like all the other people I knew after we moved away from our little hippie town in northern CA, but I could only fight it for so long. When I had my own children I realized that I wanted to parent the way my own mom did, cuz quite frankly, I think she did a pretty awesome job.... Ya know, cuz I'm pretty awesome.

The advice she gave me was different from my friends moms who were telling them to not only formula feed INSTEAD of breastfeeding (say WHAT?!?) but also telling them to give cereal in bottles at 4 weeks, buy XYZ diaper because "they are so absorbent you don't have to change them as often" O.o. So um yeah, my moms advice was really just affirming what felt natural to me. Sleep with your baby, you will be well rested and it will help your milk supply. Wear your baby, it will make you both more comfortable. Don't feed him that mush, I gave you chunks of soft food when you started showing an interest in food. Use cloth diapers, they are better for the environment, your wallet, and your baby. Breastfeed as long as you can, your baby will know when he no longer needs breast milk.

Granted, I didn't fully take her advice on some of those things until the 2nd (extended breastfeeding, cloth diapering) and 3rd babies (delayed solids), but I love that my "crunchy" roots are showing through now. And now my own kids are also born crunchy. Hence the name :)

Now I started knitting about 5 years ago, making cute hats and misc gifts for friends, but when I entered the world of Cloth Diapering, I discovered wool diaper covers. Not only are they an amazing thing because they are environmentally friendlier than PUL (polyurethane laminate) diaper covers, because wool is renewable, but they are oh so soft, squishy and so flippin adorable! And because beautifully hand painted yarns were a bit out of my price range I started dyeing my own.... And then of course I wanted cute little tshirts to match, but with 3 small children and a one income household, I wasn't exactly in the position to buy them, so I started making my own....

And now to fund my adorably squishy habit of beautiful wool and cute tshirts, along with helping to keep me home with my precious boys, I have decided to branch out and sell my handmade goodies and spread the love of squishy, beautiful wool and super cute matching shirts to the Cloth Diapering world and beyond!

This blog will post tons of stuff, but at this moment, most likely just previews of things to come.... I will be guest stocking at Shizz.Knitz grand opening on October 1st, and will also be a part of the brand new Congo, Sweet November, opening November 1st, both on Hyena Cart. I plan to have my own grand opening sometime in the next 4 months, hopefully sooner rather than later.... Thanks for stopping by!
